Mt. Woodson Hike May 22, 2010

I woke up this Saturday at 6:15 in the morning to get ready for a hike up Mt. Woodson from Lake Poway. I've done this hike many times before, but this time I was meeting up with the crew that will hike Mt. Whitney in one day on July 2nd. We all arrived at Lake Poway around 8 AM. It was actually quite cold and windy, but I was still wearing shorts and no jacket. Mike, Steve, Lee and I had a head start as Jim waited for Darin to get his gear together. Once we made it to the "shady" tree, which was the coldest spot on the mountain today, Steve had to head back to attend a sporting event for one of his children. Darin and Jim had not yet caught up. So we continued up the hill to the summit. It was still cloudy at the top, but not too cold. About five minutes later Darin joined us without Jim, who decided to go back down with Steve for other reasons. It took us about two hours to get to the summit. As we hiked down, the sun finally started to shine through the clouds which was nice because it was more windy. There were quite a few people hiking up at this point. We made it back to the parking lot in 90 minutes. We all agreed that we need much more training hikes before Mt. Whitney. Hopefully we can do San Jacinto in a few weeks. Until then, more local hikes just to get into shape.
